About Research, Development & Education

The institute RD&E is structured to ensure the full integration of science within daily practice. Directors of the orthopedic, rheumatology and rehabilitation centers define the research projects to be undertaken by RD&E. The directors are members of the scientific board.

Research projects encompass the whole field related to posture and movement: orthopedics, rheumatology, rehabilitation, speech and language pathology, pharmacy, (neuro)psychology, movement sciences, biomechanics and adaptation techniques. RD&E is also responsible for projects relating to quality and patient safety.

RD&E accommodates the following centres of excellence:
- ambulant center for brain damage (ACHN)
- center for speech and language technology in the area of speech and language pathology and rehabilitation (OSTT).
- sport medical centre

Cooperation
RD&E works closely together with the Radboud University Nijmegen and the University Medical Center St. Radboud. The institute also profits from participation in an extensive network of various regional, national and international research institutes and universities, resulting in various multicenter research projects.

Staff
The multidisciplinary scientific staff represents a multitude of backgrounds: orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists, physiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, movement scientists, physiotherapists, speech and language pathologists, pharmacists and quality and prevention controllers.

Several professors, with chairs in neuropsychology, language science, neurophysiology and rehabilitation medicine work in the Institute.

Modern research facilities
RD&E is well equipped for research related to posture and movement. The institute has its own movement laboratory and an epidemiologic service desk. If a clinical setting is required, RD&E rely on the centers found at the Sint Maartenskliniek, or on one of many partners.
